A traditional anarchist May-day march took place on Saturday in Prague’s centre, shortly after twelve o’clock.
The rally started with speech addressed to the gathering of more than 200 people. Then the crowd headed to the Charles University´s Faculty of Philosophy while chanting: “We are neither machines nor human resources” or “your crisis, our misery”. Right in front of the faculty an incident with the security crew of a Czech commercial TV channel took place. Neo-Nazi members of the security were confronted after they were several times asked to leave the demonstration.
Then a speech about commodification of education was held. Shortly after that the march continued to Strelecky ostrov - traditional anarchist May-day meeting point since 1890. There another speech was held about the judicial murder of anarchists from Chicago in 1886. It also pointed to the need of keeping continuity with their struggle to these days. Then the memorial wreath was laid, followed by a minute of silence. As a symbolic end of the march a figurine representing the capitalist system was executed. Most of the marchers then continued to Czech Antifascist Action’s May-day festival, this year attended by more than 10.000 people.
